Australia wins first World Cup match!

Aussie, Aussie, Oi, Oi, Oi!!! Their first goals and first ever win in the World Cup.
Australia beats Japan 3-1. From Soccernet:
Tim Cahill scored twice in the last six minutes and John Aloisi added a third in injury time as Australia made a winning return to the World Cup finals with a 3-1 victory over Japan.

Everton midfielder Cahill came off the bench to score in the 84th and 89th minutes to overhaul a one-goal deficit after Japan had taken the lead following an error by Mark Schwarzer in the first half at Kaiserslautern's Fritz-Walter Stadium.
I didn't pick Australia to progress beyond the group stage but after this win, who knows. Australia's next game: Brazil! Now, where did I stuff my Australia national flag?

Previously: England to win the World Cup!

Cahill was superb. He made the difference when he came on.

I'm surprised too. The Japs were rated higher than the Aussies by the bookies.

I had expected a draw or a marginal win by the Japs. It's quite a turnaround. Great drama!

I think Harry Kewell is overrated. He seems to lose the ball every time.

As for Brazil, I hope Australia would win but well, that's not realistic.
