The Really Curious Case of David Widjaja

Watch this interview (video above) given by David Widjaja's family to the Indonesian news and tell me if you don't find his death a little odd. Thanks to reader Fadri for giving me the English subs for the video.

In summary, both the father and brother strongly believe that David would not kill himself and that he wasn't stressed because his scholarship was terminated, adding that the family can afford to pay for his studies. They also said that they were not allowed to view his body immediately and when they did, they could only view his head and neck - the rest of the body was covered in plastic. Both of them were also unhappy that they were unable to meet with Associate Professor Chan Kap Luk whom the local media says was stabbed by David before he jumped down to kill himself.

Now, the latest news is that Indonesia has asked Singapore to speed up the investigation into David's death. This comes after another person in NTU was found dead. NTU project officer Zhou Zheng was found hanged in his NTU campus apartment. Zhou also studied at the School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering where David studied and both apparently were from the same lab in S2-B3a-06. Coincident? I don't think so. David's father has this to say, "We sense that many strange things have occurred here. What is the motive behind all this?”

One person who claims to be David's close friend left a comment in a Straits Times forum. Excerpts here:
1. Lok Tat Seng: Dean of Student of NTU gathered all Indonesian students in International Student Center on evening after incident and he just said there was witness on the spot who saw David's body lying on the ground, dead. Dean did not said that witness saw David jumped from balcony. And that is, according to him, all he has saw.

2. The only official statement from police is: David was found dead at the crime scene, they did not mention whether he commited suicide.

They also just mention 'The professor was believed to be stabbed'. The police did not say that 'the professor was stabbed'. Where this assumption come from? Why they did not say about it?

3. I and some Indonesian students gather tonight, 3 March 2009, at 8 pm, at International Student Center and talked to David's parent. They have seen his body. There was NO WOUND whatsoever on his wrists and police also has confirmed it. I assumed that his parent would not lie it means that all media news about 'David slashed his wrist' was FAKE.

Update: NTU Prof Chan breaks his silence and dispels rumours!

i am really ashamed of our local media and the journalists that reported the stories.

This has the ingredients of a good crime/mystery movie.

It doesn't look like a simple case of someone trying to kill another person then committing suicide anymore.

look... ntu needs to cover their ass... their reputation is on the line here... they have to do what they can to make this less of a bad pr... i'm not sayin they are covering it up but the police are investigation and now its up to them to deliver the truth.

of course the parents are going to say he wasn't the sort to commit suicide. which parent would willingly say, "yes yes. i believe so. my son was sad and depressed and he was likely to have killed himself"

don't you just love patriots and conspiracy theorists?

i know i do.

i love them because they make life so interesting. they can point out cover ups, mysteries and the unknown in anything!!!

even in an oreo cookie!!!

now, it's time to figure out... who put the white cream in between the oreo cookie.. who did? who did? was it nabisco??? or was it glico???

or--heavens, no!--was it a cover up!?!?!?

Yeah, many of you may feel that the parents are just "covering up" for David, but really?! Aren't you just too consumed by what the media reported? Which are, by the way, very much one-sided too? Why don't you take a moment to think about that. Also, if you think that the family won't admit that David killed himself, then what made you believe that the Prof aren't lying? There are so many loopholes in the investigation that really disgust me. If Singapore is based on justice and equality, I think they better step up to their name.

Now, are you sure David is even dead? Maybe he's not!! Maybe his parents, the media and the police are covering up everything to make it appear like he's dead when he's not so people can poke fun at our legal system and our apparently lawless country and biased media.

Because, you see, do you know that he's actually dead?

I mean, we can't trust what the media has reported. So... HOW DO WE EVEN KNOW THERE WAS A DEATH IN THE FIRST PLACE??

nothing fits!! nothing fits!! everything is a cover up!!

even the earth!! it's actually flat! not round!!!

the scientists.. they are covering up! they want us to believe the earth is round when it's actually flat.
